Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine

Our Internal Medicine department consists of two Board Certified Veterinary Internists. They offer neurology, cardiology, oncology, and of course, internal medicine. The services we provide include, but are not limited to: ultrasound, endoscopy, colonscopy and further special testing not normally provided at a general veterinary practice. The Specialists are highly educated in their fields of expertise.

Members of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology, also known as “board-certified veterinary dermatologists”, have studied skin and ear disorders
of animals for two to four years beyond the standard courses taught in veterinary schools. Going through focused training, original research and challenging examinations, veterinary dermatologists gain valuable experience and achieve expertise in recognizing and managing a wide variety of skin disorders ranging from allergies, immune-mediated diseases, infectious diseases, and cancers.  Veterinary dermatologists maintain their certification by participating in national and international gatherings of their peers and by conducting research and writing

publications in their fields of interest.  Currently there are only a few hundred board-certified dermatologists worldwide. The
GCVS Dermatology Staff offers a comprehensive approach to skin and ear disorders of the dog and cat.  Our veterinary dermatologist and highly trained registered veterinary technicians take the time to really get to know both the client and their special patient.  We offer a full range of state-of-the-art diagnostic techniques, including but not limited to, intradermal (allergy) testing, serologic allergen screening, skin biopsies with dermatohistopathology evaluations, bacterial and fungal cultures, and video-otoscopic evaluation of the external ear canals and portions of the middle ear cavities.  In addition, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is available to our veterinarians when indicated.

Our Surgery Service consists of a Board-Certified Surgeon with a wide variety of surgical experiences.  We offer soft tissue, orthopedic, and neurologic surgery options.  Consultation with our surgeon is by appointment on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with surgeries performed each day and on an Emergency basis as needed.  Emergency consultation is available through our Emergency Service at any time.  Our Emergency Deptartment is well versed at handling emergency cases, and consultation is available as needed on evenings, Fridays, and weekends.

Diagnosic assistance is provided to our Internal Medicine, Dermatology, and Emergency Services as needed for joint taps, myelograms, biopsy procedures,

and other sampling, and management of other chronic, non-surgical conditions.  Medical management consultations for situations when surgery is not an option are also available.  Underwater treadmill rehabilitation therapy is also available.
